My new (cover) song. Give a listen? ūüéłūüé§

It’s been a while again since I last posted a blog entry and I promise to post more soon! Regardless, I just want to share a little something to tickle your ears just for a bit. I pretty much had a lot of free time yesterday and I remember singing and dancing to this tune with my girlfriends when we were out the other night so I decided to play with the song and sing Maroon 5’s “Payphone”. Since I only do this for fun, I just recorded myself in my room using Garageband through my iMac computer. I had a favorable circumstance to enjoy the whole experience of recording the song that’s why I did so many “voices” and “inserts”. Have a great day, everyone. Cheers!

Hong Kong 2012

Check out this video about my HK trip with friends last September 1 – 4, 2012

One of the best Hong Kong trips I’ve had. Thank you to my awesome friend, Janina Manipol who made this wonderful video. More trips to come for the traveler in me. ūüėė

Oh yes. If you noticed, I haven’t been blogging since March 2012 because honestly, I’ve been thinking if it was really worth my extra time to verbalize and write blog posts since I already have Twitter (@iamkarelmarquez) and Instagram (@iamkarelmarquez too)¬†for everyone to see what I’ve been up to. Since I love writing anyway, I presume that it won’t hurt to post anything under the clouds when I have the time. (It’s also an excuse for me to just stay home when I don’t have work because hee hee hee) So here I am sending you all an entry after half a year. Well… That’s it! Good night everyone!

Buon appetite at L’incontro

Buon appetite at L’incontro

L’incontro ¬† Benvenuto Benvenuta, everyone!¬†That night, aside from the fact that I’ve been trying to learn a little of the italian language, I was craving for their authentic food here in the metro. And nothing beats this classic Italian restaurant.. … Continue reading

WAH!!! They pointed the shower at me and hit me with many pillows!
Hello, everyone! Sorry for not blogging for a while. I’ve been busy doing other important
things but I’m back.
I watched this show a few weeks ago (March. 2, 2012) but it’s just now that
I updated this post. Okay, before anything else, I suggest you watch FUERZA BRUTA for yourself
(more people the better though, bring fam and friends!) and I think no words or photos can best describe how the show FEELS.
This show is originally from Buenos Aires but has been touring all over the globe, even on broadway.
I must admit, I really was entertained with this because it wasn’t your normal theatrical
show you would watch.¬†Cirque de Soleil plus a “trippy” feel for me! The show interacts with you and puts all your senses in an unparalleled level.¬†I won’t really go in to every
detail about the show but in a way, the photos can show you how unique and fun this show was.
Really awesome techno music opens the show. I loved their tracks!
Man walks, runs, gets shot. Is this a dream? Reality? You decide.
Smashing into walls!
Ladies slide left and right through intoxicating hue walls
I LOVED THIS PART AS WELL! You JUST had to go with the flow with their crazy pumping beats!
This was really fun!!! Some members of the show gets to smash pillows on people’s heads.
YES. I was one of them. Hahahaha! What a trip!
The highlight of the show for me was the floating pool on top the audience.
Everyone was just so “game”! Hold up! LOOK UP!
Together with the trippy techno music, stare at their poses like art. Very cool vibe!
The cast. Great job as always! The fact that they have been doing this for quite awhile now and still have the same energy when they do the show. Another must watch show in Manila!
Unfortunately, they will be here only until end of March 2012 so if you do get the chance,
why not check it out!

PAL (Philippine Airlines) dining

I’m flying business class and I’m off to Vegas! Hah.. not really today, folks!
I just want to share with you my dining experience with PAL. Yes, that’s right.
They (Philippine Airlines office) have a demo airplane inside to train the new flight attendants, especially for international flights. How cool is that? They invite guests only a couple of times a year, to experience dining inside the plane, with business class dishes, and you even get to meet these really really nice flight attendant trainees. As you enter the demo plane (looks super real!!!), they will offer you drinks, maybe champagne?
Depending on their menu that day, this was the appetizer. YUM asian salad!
I chose a chicken dish since they let you choose what meat you want.
Great dessert to end my “flight!” Some choco mango panna cotta and 2 cheese with nuts and crackers.
Nice touch with your wine while enjoying the plane.
At the PAL office. Haha! Bon voyage! Safe travels!

THE SOUND OF MUSIC is close to my heart.

Finally! After months of waiting.. I’m here at Resorts World Manila to watch!
Excited. Me, and my friend Wella Atayde.
This musicale has been running since last year at the Newport Performing Arts Theater but I never grabbed that chance to watch it until last February 19, 2012. Great news to those who haven’t watched because they’re¬†extended¬†until May, 2012!!!
For a local musicale, PERSONALLY, this is one of the most thought about plays in terms of venue, production design, and video editing. The huge theater alone got me excited to watch my all-time fave movie/play. Believe or not, I portrayed the role “Marta von Trapp” when I was a kid and my mother played the lead, “Maria Rainer”. So actually, besides the fact that I watched this movie a millions times, I was also in The Sound Of Music play in Manila when I was about 10 years old, if I’m not mistaken. Watching this now brought me awesome memories of the story. I kind of memorize the lines and songs by heart.
Me and my one and only mom Pinky Marquez, as Mother Abbess.
My cousin Alexa Marquez Villaroel as Gretl.
When I also say this musicale is close to me, I am proud to say that once again, my mother, Pinky Marquez, is part of this now but not anymore as “Maria” (haha!), but as the Mother Abbess. As usual, she made me cry during her performance because her voice is always out of this world, amazing! My mother will always be my idol. My cousin, Alexa Marquez Villaroel is also in this seasons play. She portrays Gretl von Trapp, the youngest among the seven children. Boy was I also stunned to see my little cousin perform so well at such a young age. I guess theater runs in our blood. Now, the lead of the play “Maria Rainer” was portrayed by Joanna Ampil and she blew me away with her clean, crisp, theatrical voice and studied her lines (and accent) so incredibly well! I love her.¬†I will give credit to Mio Infante who never fails to make the stage look fantabulous! It was also one of the firsts for Philippine theater to add high-tech video design in sync with all the scenes and songs, thanks to director, Paul Soriano for a clever job! This production is directed by Roxanne Lapus and obviously, the play was executed well! To the rest of the crew and actors of this years The Sound Of Music, I give you a standing ovation.

Weather you’re in to theater or not, I still recommend you watch this for a rare fun experience!
A must see.

Izakaya Kikufuji

I wanted to try another restaurant and a friend of mine recommended
this place to me. The food here is surprisingly affordable for an
authentic Japanese resto even if I ordered a lot! Happy tummy!

I try my best to keep it short and simple when it comes to sharing my
food experiences with you all. I would definitely recommend this place
if you’re craving for some authentic Japanese food.
While eating, you will definitely see Japanese nationalities beside you.
I guess that’s a good sign! They should know their own cuisine.

For starters.. hot or cold green tea? They will offer you. I chose the hot tea.
Salmon sashimi
Fresh and served chilled.. just how I like it.
By the way, you gotta love their freshly ground wasabi!

Wakame (seaweed) soup
This was simple yet fulfilling.

Kampai! Sake. Japanese culture.
Spicy Tuna is always good in most Jap restos.
Kaki fry (Fried Oysters)
Buta Bara teriyaki¬†(left) –¬†Buta Bara salted¬†(left)
This is similar to the Filipino dish, Pork Liempo. Juicy!
Aspara Bacon (Asparagus wrapped in Bacon) (left)
Enoki Bacon (Golden mushrooms wrapped in Bacon) (right)
I enjoyed the Aspara Bacon! Bacon is a winner.
Asari (grilled clams) (left)
Gyu Kushi (grilled beef cubes) (right)

Their service is pretty fast too. I SIMPLY recommend this place!

After watching “The Sound Of Music” (the musicale) at the Resorts World Manila, I wanted to chow down on something delicious that would satisfy my hunger. Call me “MATAKAW”(English Definition: (adj) /ma–/ greedy; voracious; gluttonous). Here’s another restaurant that popped in my head! Besides the fact that it’s pretty much beside the theater of “The Sound Of Music”, I always walk by this restaurant after a enjoying a “night out” since it is sandwiched by two hot night spots in the metro, Opus and Republiq Club. I never really got the chance to lounge around and try their food during those nights so I decided that now is the perfect time after watching a 3 hour play, just in time for dinner. You have an option to dine inside the restaurant or you can unwind and sit outside, also with big comfy tables as well. I chose to sit outside because during the time that I was there, a musical ballet show was ongoing, only a few meters away from the restaurant. It was entertaining to watch as I ordered food.

Roasted squash soup and bacon chips

Baked whole baby Brie in garlic-thyme olive oil

Very simple ingredients, but still a winner for me. You gotta fall in love with Brie!

Gambas and mushroom ajillo
The mushrooms helped complete the dish and got along with the bread crackers!

Crispy pork belly “Bagnet and tokwa”, sawsawan and garlic rice

Hey, they have pretty good Bagnet! Juicy yet crunchy.

Wine, dine and explore with me.

People may know me as a public figure in the showbiz industry. Yup, I love to perform and it is indeed my passion.. BUT just like any other person, we all have a variety of things that interest us. I rejoice with our Lord Jesus Christ. I love my family, friends, and of course I love my angels, Keiley and Kyler. I would do everything to show them my love forever. I fancy trying new things and exploring the universe. Little me wanted to be an astronaut and a pilot once. If I could travel the world, I would! ¬†Ever since I was young, I also already savored all kinds of cuisines and I’d always talk about what I ate and thought about how delicious (or not) it was. I also love to cook but back in the day (my “tween” years) I was just too lazy to do it because I knew my mother’s cooking was superb! Yes, one day I’ll share with you her amazing dishes. Don’t get me wrong, I cook most of the time now. It’s just that I enjoy eating the finished product because food is just gastronomic! Don’t you think? Well, that’s for me! So anyway, here I am, trying to share with you my little experiences with the world.. and food. Stay positive, folks and you’ll get there!

Greeting everyone a wonderful day!

Inagiku Japanese Restaurant

So far, one of the best Japanese restaurants in the country. Like I said,
I like my blog posts short and simple.
I just have to say their food, location, and service is AWESOME!
I’ll keep it simple for this one because the pictures can say more.
The food even tastes better than it looks. If I had 10 thumbs, I’d say 10 thumbs up!
Assorted appetizer. Refreshing start.

My forever comfort soup. Miso.
Tamago, Salmon, and Tuna sashimi is heaven.
MELTS¬†. IN¬†.¬†YOUR¬†.¬†MOUTH.¬†You’ll know the quality difference from others, promise!
Time for Teppanyaki grill time!

They will show you their “cooking tricks” like letting the egg jump up and down.
Beef fried rice from the grill

Sauce for seafood teppan (left) – sauce for Wagyu beef (right)
Off the grill YUMMY salmon, prawn, white meat fish, scallops, vegetables,

Also off the grill. SUPERB Wagyu beef!!! Winner.
Black Sesame ice cream with coffee jelly. Great way to end your meal!
By the way, since I ate on a week day, I ordered from the menu. I suggest going on a WEEKEND for BUFFET time and I’m sure you won’t regret it!
ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT heavenly Japanese food.
